Karen Walker, who came from humble beginnings in New Zealand, first started her fashion brand in 1989. With her Husband, Mikhail Gherman as its creative director, the duo have become incredibly powerful in the industry, now showing exclusively at New York Fashion Week. Over the years Karen has been noted for her excellent collaborations. Most recently she was approached by the Ethical Fashion Initiative to collaborate on her eyewear range, ‘Visible’. The Ethical Fashion Initiative pairs amazing artisans from impoverished nations all around the world with top designers. These artisans produce some of their outstanding work in exchange for a healthy wage and in turn higher quality of living. These Joyous frames in Crazy Tort from Karen Walker’s Visible collection come with a pouch handmade in Kenya by some of these participating craftspeople. Taking it one step beyond, Karen featured the people who made these pouches in the campaign imagery. This particular pair is one of our favourites, with its double bridge and classic tortoise shell frame. It is available with a limited edition pouch in our Albert Street City store for just $295.
