VANS WHITLOCK LACE UP SHOES available in Black and White

A favourite for all Violent Green staff has to be Vans shoes. The legendary Cali label was "shoe of choice" from the initial spark of the skate scene in Venice Beach California and continues to support the skateboarding scene even to this day. The Vans Whitlock shoes are an understated lace up shoe with all the lux features of a highend designer shoe. Leather and suede combo with the signature Vans Waffle sole, these are so damn good.... I had to have both colours!
To shop these shoes, pop into Violent Green Albert street store or online here

Getting to know Petite Grand's Tanja Kovacevic

Long-time jewellery staple of Violent Green, Sydney’s Petite Grand has always been a favourite among staff and customers.  Specialising in delicate looking bracelets, fine rings and drop earrings, there is a lot to like about the label.  We thought it was about time we interviewed founder Tanja Kovacevic about Petite Grand.

  Hey Tanja, how are you?

I’m great, excited to do this interview with Violent Green who has been a great supporter of the brand from day one. Thank you!

Yeah, we've loved the label the moment we viewed the collection in the Sydney showroom. So Petite Grand was founded back in 2010.   What was the initial goal and aesthetic of the label?

The goal was simply to make jewellery that I loved. Pieces that were different, unique and handmade, and could either be worn as a statement on their own, or worn layered back.

Five years in, do you feel Petite Grand has stayed true to its original ideals?

Yes, the collections increase in size each season (because I love designing and can’t stop) but I still follow the same aesthetic – design and make pieces with love and they will be loved.

The label has developed quite a name for itself.  Could you have imagined this happening when you first started?

No. When I started I was hopeful but it has grown bigger then what I ever imagined!

One aspect of Petite Grand jewellery that is instantly recognisable is the silk chord on the bracelets.  What drew you towards using silk as a material in your jewellery?

The bold colour, and the softness it offers. I love how silk can be mixed with gold and silver metals, and how well it complemented the rest of the collection.

You have also started using other materials not commonly associated with fine jewellery, such as shells.  Was there any particular material you would love to work yet but haven’t had the chance?

Yes, I would love to work with resin.

The label has spread internationally and now sold the world over.  Was there a particular place you liked to visit?

I just got back from Tokyo, which was inspiring!  I can’t wait to go back.

Do you have a set method when designing jewellery, or do you have a more ‘organic’ design process?

Definitely organic. I surround myself with lots of beautiful metals and materials and start playing. Most of the time I have an idea that I make into a design, other times I make items without thinking about it too much and let the creativity flow.

In between designing, what do you do to unwind?

I take my dog Max for long walks.  He has an abundant amount of energy, so by the time we are done we both super relaxed.

What can we expect next from Petite Grand?

I have recently launched a 14kt solid gold range; I would love to add more designs into this collection.

Thanks for taking the time out to do this interview Tanja and we can't wait to see what you get up to next.

Mandarin Pullover Shirt in Black by I LOVE UGLY

A fresh shipment from I Love Ugly has arrived and the boys have delivered yet again.  Each drop from this New Zealand label has been flying out the door and it’s easy to see why when they keep making such awesome, versatile street wear. We all love a good Mandarin Collar here at Violent Green and are very happy to see it make an appearance in this delivery, this time coming in as a Pullover Shirt.
The shirt features a slightly slimmer fit through the torso, contrasting wooden buttons and layered inserts running along the waist.  Made from a crease resistant cotton, you’ll be able to wear in the morning and well into the night night without having to worry about it getting crushed. How good is that? The Mandarin Collar Pullover is your go to shirt for something a little off centre but still in a classic cut. It’s available in our Albert St City Store and online here

MENS SATIN BOMBER by Vanishing Elephant

Its a sad time for us with Vanishing Elephant. Not because the label is having any problems, but because our good friends Huw Bennett and Felix Chan will be leaving the label since its inception approx 8 years ago. But to balance the sadness out, our beloved ex-VG buyer Ana Diaz will take the reigns of the design sector and take the label forward. Exciting times. We'll be receiving plenty more stock from VE soon but in the meantime, here's a great piece from the current mens Autumn/Winter collection. The Mens Satin Bomber is a slick piece that covers you for "rained out laundry days". Yep, this reversible jacket can be worn in black with embroidered detailing on Friday night, and by Saturday night, flip it inside out and kapow... you got another jacket! To shop this item, pop into Violent Green Albert street store or shop the collection here
